The Colors of a Great Dane 1: Blue
I will spend some time discussing the colors of a Great Dane..those colors that are acceptable according to breed standard. The acceptable colors include: Fawn, Blue, Brindle, Black, Harlequin, Merle.
Today’s color will be
BLUE
This happens to be my favorite Great Dane Color. A Blue Great Dane is so noble and unique with the bluish, steely grey shine of its coat. The color has to be a pure steel blue and white markings on the chest and toes are not desirable. Blue Danes may have lighter eyes; making them even more unique.

He is fantastic!I want to buy dane like this, but i didn’t see some like this here in Bulgaria. Plese, tell me where i can buy blue puppy? Thanks!
I feel the same way! This champ is “great”, I love these dogs and would hope to have another, especially a “blue” one. If anyone could let me know how to obtaine one of these beautiful kind dogs. Please write to jimmy.colton@yaoo.com thankyou very much for your time,this will make a family who has lost one of these dog to old age already R.I.P. DAISY
merle is not one of the accepted colours of a dane.. they are fawn, brindle, black, blue, harlequin and mantle/boston… merles are an imperfection in the harlequin coats
I love these dogs!
But u wouldn’t want one of those dogs to change its mind about you!
I have been searching for the right place to purchase a “blue” great dane!! If you know where I can purchase one please email me or have that person email me! The dog will be in very excellent hands and we will love it!!
Beautiful dog! Shame about the writing: “so unique” and “more unique” don’t make sense. Please look up the definition of the word “unique”.
Jamine, dog’s don’t “change their mind about you.” It’s obvious you’ve never had a dog. I highly recommend learning how to raise and care for one, and then getting one! It’s very rewarding.
Sharena, where to buy one depends on where you are. There is no one place for the entire planet/Internet. However you can use the Internet to find breeders in your area.
thats lovely i would love one of these n binkie get a grip they have only left comments
this breed is not for everyone. i have raised 3, two from very young. until about 18-20 months they can be very destructive, and need to be crate trained, along with kind, gentle yet strong owner. socialization is a must! good website to go to for great info is sunstrike danes in phoenix arizona or daynakin danes in Washington.
very important to limit protein with danes, never more than 21%…these dogs do NOT eat ‘puppy’ food…
@Binkie
Your father loves you.
Binkie you seem like a bit of a wanker. You spelt Jasmine wrong by the way.
really its a very unique dog. His colour is very different.
Actually, Merle is not an imperfection of the Harlequin coat color. You must have either a homozygous dominant(encodes for a defective white) or a heterozygous dominant (encodes for a Merle) Merle gene coupled with a heterozygous Harlequin gene in order to have a Harlequin. Since defective whites often have birth defects (no sight or hearing) and breeding Harlequins together will lead to significant puppy loss do to subsequent homozygous dominant Harlequin creation (embryonic lethal). You must have Merle danes in order to make Harlequins.
wow binkie seriously needs to find a friend. these are just comments you know get a grip of yourself :/
@Binkie,
It’s ok, we don’t care who you are. And Giant G. is right your parents do love you.
Hi. I am handicaped, balence and wlking impared. I have a Giant German shepherd as my service dog now, but I met a beautiful harliquin Dane the other day, and for my use a dog this size would be great! I am tall so a large breed is what I need so I dont have to lean to far over.
hi, We have a 6 year old Harlequin GD called Indie. A real stunner, as they all are! Beautiful natured Dog. Id actually never owned any dog prior to my Dane but had always admired this breed from a young girl. I knew one day I wanted to own one, it was a life long desire. At first I was too soft with him and quite quickly realised I had to up my game with him if I as to be the one in control! It’s still a battle of wills but we have an understanding and he really is the love of my life and as each year passes I get more upset at the thought of losing him as they don’t live as long as other breeds because of their size which is such a shame. I will be lost without this special boy, that’s for sure! No advice really, im sure you all know the rights and wrongs of taking on a GD but just because you have to let him know who’s boss doesnt mean you don’t love him, on the contrary, every dog needs to know it’s place and will be happier being obedient! bye guys, Kerry and of course,Indie xx
please let me know where i can find a blue great dane puppy…i live in greece,here i cant find one but i can visit italy or bulgaria..thank you
Hi, here is a beautiful blue Great Dane for sale: http://www.europuppy.com/dog_for_sale/great_dane_9444.html
I have a blue male. He is greatest dog ever! Anyone interested in a Dane should do their homework. Learn as much as you can before you buy. My Gunner is the perfect addition to my family but I knew exactly what I was getting into prior. I have an excellent breeder in Indiana if anyone is interested.
I have a female blue dane, and her full brother who is a black dane and they are the best dogs i’ve ever had, i would never own anything now other than a dane, yes as all dogs should be socialized well, i bring them for lots of rides and bring them weekly in the petstore, they truly are wonderful dogs, smart, great personality, they love other dogs,cats, and people, and protective, big couch potatoes and cuddly.
I have taken delivery of a black Great Dane Puppy this morning and will be greatful for any tips on how to live with my new friend. I have two other dogs at home a sherpherd and dobbermam cross
