If you want to adopt a Great Dane for a family pet, then you should know how to take care of its overall well-being. For this, Guide to Owning a Great Dane: Puppy Care, Health, Feeding, Training, Showing, Breed Standard can definitely help you through this.

Great Danes are friendly in nature and is often referred to us the gentle giants. They require exercise or daily walks to remain healthy, but avoid over exercising them especially at a young age. They are in risk of joint problems so you need to know how to do physical activities with them in a proper and safe way. Great Danes just like any other giant dogs have slow metabolism which results in less energy and less food consumption. They may suffer from gastric dilatation-volvulus which is a critical condition so you need to pay attention to their health. This breed never appears to be ugly, so it is essential for you to maintain a Great Danes physical appearance and its health condition.

Feeding time can be a social event when everyone wants to take turns in giving food. However; this must be done with care as in what goes into their tummies. Great Danes may be fluffy and cute but in a span of one year they can be towering 6 foot on their hind legs.

Large dogs are prone to hip dysplasia, osteochondrosis or joint ailments due to their weight and growth pace. Too much protein would indeed contribute to these health issue’s because it affects their bone development. A low protein diet is recommended with a content of 23% protein and fat no less than 12% but not excessive. A proper diet must be followed for many years of fun times ahead.
